Well So long I have not written any blog so I am kind of sorry for being so irregular but I had pleasant and not so pleasant diversions in last few days which kept me away from computer... After all technology is supposed to be the slave of Humanity not the other way round.
Now coming to the topic yesterday someone had asked me whether I'll remain honest in my future life? His question made me think will I be Honest? or for that mater am I honest? To find this answer first e have to understand that what is corruption?
"according to Answers.com Corruption is Improper and usually
unlawful conduct intended to secure a benefit for oneself or another
(Britannica)".
Now the point is that it nowhere implies that the person committing the corruption has to take back something in return from the other person he had benefited that implies that corruption can be one way affair. Now as we all know that very one has a Subjective world view that means most of the times we are not as objective as expected. This further implies that we can see subjective differences where there is on objective differences and that amounts to improper conduct and if on this basis if we deny/provide some benefits to a particular person for which he/she is not entitled then it amounts to corruption...
Being the lesser mortals we all have our own likings and disliking and most of the times these liking and disliking are based on emotional impulses and instincts rather than on rational thinking. These liking and disliking may and infact do, result into biasness and thus in a improper conduct (read creation here). So corruption is inherent in commoners nature.
On the other hand every one tries to define corruption in such away that his definition excludes his own behavior. For example bribe taking person may argue that he is not corrupt as he takes money only from those who have the capacity and willingness to pay and thus he never troubles the por man. On other hand A person may be forwarding undue favors for some relative and still call himself honest as he had not taken any cash/tangible asset. Similarly a person may not be favoring even the relatives yet may favor a less meritorious person who have the similar ideology. All these examples show that Honesty and Corruption are protean concept which are molded by all according to their convenience.
Here some likings and disliking operate at subconscious level i.e. Halo Effect, Labelling Effect, Stereotyping, etc. thus even the conscious control may not help. So next time when Some asks you that are U honest think twice as you may be completely unaware about your corruption level...
